Our Daily Necessity
Matthew 4:4 | Matthew Gonzalez | September 14, 2025
Will you treat God’s Word as optional, or embrace it as your daily necessity—the life-giving truth your soul can’t live without?
-
Matt continued our series on Scripture by walking us through Matthew 4:4, Isaiah 40:8, James 1:22–25, and other passages, showing us that God’s Word is both preserved and powerful for daily life. Using a football playbook story, he reminded us that salvation puts us on God’s team, but Scripture is what shows us how to live, fight temptation, and grow strong. The Bible is not just inspirational—it is necessary for spiritual survival.
God’s Word Is Necessary for Life
Jesus says in Matthew 4:4, “Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceeds out of the mouth of God.”
Just as our bodies can’t survive without food, our souls can’t survive without Scripture.
Key Phrase: “You cannot live without God’s Word.”
💭 Reflection: Do I treat Scripture as a necessity or an optional snack?
God Has Preserved His Word
For thousands of years, through empires, critics, and persecution, God has kept His Word intact.
With over 25,000 manuscripts, the Bible is the most reliable ancient document in history.
Scripture: Isaiah 40:8; 2 Timothy 3:16.
Key Phrase: “The same God who breathed out His Word has been holding it together for thousands of years.”
💭 Reflection: Do I trust that the Bible I hold today is truly God’s Word?
God’s Word Transforms When Applied
James 1:22 warns against hearing without obeying—it’s like looking in a mirror and walking away unchanged.
True blessing comes when we don’t just hear the Word but live it.
Key Phrase: “Information without application brings no transformation.”
💭 Reflection: What step of obedience is God calling me to today?
Word-Fed or Word-Neglecting?
Psalm 1 contrasts the word-fed life—stable, fruitful, unshakable—with the neglecting life—empty and fragile.
Ultimately, the Bible points us to Jesus, the Bread of Life (John 6:35).
Key Phrase: “Don’t just leave guilty about not reading your Bible—leave hungry for Jesus.”
💭 Reflection: How can I cultivate a deeper hunger for God’s Word this week?
